Adam and I have decided to run a marathon in October!!! Yikes! We are excited and super nervous. About 150 people from our church are going to be running for Team World Vision. Our goal is to raise $1300 each to support clean water efforts in Africa. This is near and dear to our hearts because we have sponsored a child, Sofia, for 8 years through World Vision.
Training will be challenging but we are trying to plan well and be very intentional about allowing each other the time we need to get our runs in. Our hope is that this will be more of a spiritual journey for us as well as a physical one. I am excited that we are doing it together and hope our relationship will grow and be challenged as we learn to support each other. (I will need LOTS of support!) On Saturdays, the long runs, we will meet people from our church at the local zoo to run together. We are hopeful that we will really get to know and connect with some of these folks since it has been a bit challenging to really connect with people at our church because of our crazy schedules. If I am ever going to successfully run a marathon I think this will be the most likely scenario to do it.
We are over a month into training and it has been an adventure already! Many 4:30am runs, lots of rainy dark days, two doctor appointments (one for each of us but I ended up canceling mine because my knee stopped swelling so bad once I got new shoes), lots of John Piper sermons and almost 100 miles logged on our mapmyrun apps. We are having fun! This might just be the boost I needed to get me back into running! I am loving being up early and outside and having time to myself before the girls wake up.
