Our Crazy Fall

Well, Fall is quickly approaching and our lives are about to get crazy.

In two weeks Adam heads to Main for his first of three rotations away from Blacksburg. Each of these rotations is essentially a month long interview. Adam scheduled rotations at these hospitals last year because they are some of his top choices for residency. It is beneficial for him to familiarize himself as much as possible to the hospital and program before ranking them later this year. (Thats a whole other story!)

On Sept 24th he heads to Portland, ME. Rylie and I are visiting him with Dave and Libby on Oct 6-8. Portland looks awesome, so it will be interesting to see our thoughts once we are there. Then Rylie and I are headed to New York to be with Cindi and the babies at her parents house for a couple weeks.

After that, Adam, Ry and I all go to Lewisburg together where he will be doing a rotation at Geisinger Hospital. This is the only D.O. (thats what Adam will be not an M.D.) program in the country for internal medicine & pediatrics (Med Peds). Go figure...we had no idea of that when Adam was deciding on Med Peds for his career. We will be staying with his sister and brother-in-law and their 8 month old, Gabe. It will definitely be great cousin time!! We are super excited!

Next, I head home and Adam goes to Hershey, PA for his last away rotation. Unfortunately, all these rotations are during the holiday season and there is no way for him to know what his schedule will be before he gets there. Which means its hard to make official plans. :(

Ok so now include into all this traveling...my strong desire to go to Colorado as many times as possible before I have to start buying a ticket for Rylie (Is she really that old?!), a number of weddings we want to go to and interviews that Adam, hopefully starts scheduling soon. Life feels crazy!! Its pretty fun though! Most residency programs host the family as well the applicant. They give tours of the city and have dinners with current residents/faculty and, I think, their families. Adam applied to 18 programs. So, we are hopeful for at least 7 interviews. These are all over the North East/Midwest and then one in Greenville, SC.

Well, I just wanted to fill you all in and ask for your prayers as we enter this busy season in life!

  1. I loved touring around with Ty for the residency interviews. Of course, we weren't juggling kids, so that's harder, but it is really fun. Typically they will wine and dine you. Usually dinner out at a nice place with some of the residents and their spouses...hopefully you can find a babysitter in some of those places so you can join them for dinner. It is really helpful to get the inside scoop from the spouses. This is so exciting!

  2. Wow, this IS a crazy Fall. I knew it was coming but I'm so glad you've written it down so I can check back where you are throughout the next couple of months... haha. Love your blog, keep it up!

  3. Yes, what a whirlwind getting ready to start up! And so soon, now. It sounds like it will be really fun. I am sure fall starts a bit earlier in Maine, but I hope he / you gets to enjoy some colorful leaves while you're there! And it is so cool that you and Cindi will get to spend a couple weeks together in NY. Is that when Kurt has one of his northern rotations, too? We will miss you! You will have to keep blogging while you are away to keep us posted on all the experiences and adventures, and how Adam likes the places he is working!

  4. Adam and Kurt are going to be in Maine together! Different rotations, so they might not see much of each other during the day, but we are hoping they will get to stay together. It will be nice for them. Last rotations they had they were pretty lonely. I will definitely keep you posted about our adventures. Thanks for the comment! :)
